The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center hosts a fun fall gathering at MickDuff's, 220 Cedar St., to kick off the winter season with an evening of movies, prizes, and community connection. On Thursday, October 9, starting at 5:00 p.m., guests can grab a drink, meet the IPAC team, and mingle with fellow winter enthusiasts before the films begin at 6:00 p.m. The night includes chances to win Salomon skis and other great swag, along with updates on avalanche education programs, safety resources, and the upcoming forecast season. READY! for Kindergarten in Sandpoint invites parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children ages 0-5 to a free early childhood literacy workshop on Saturday, October 11, at Farmin/Stidwell Elementary, 1626 Spruce St. Starting at 9:30 a.m., attendees will explore practical strategies to support their child's development of essential pre-literacy, pre-math, and social-emotional skills, laying a strong foundation for school readiness. Participants will also have the opportunity to take home a variety of educational toys, games, and hands-on activities that make learning both fun and engaging at home. This program emphasizes the vital role caregivers play in fostering happy, confident learners and provides resources to help children succeed as they prepare for kindergarten. Come celebrate the landmark 10th anniversary of Sandemonium at the 7 B's Only Convention for All Things Nerdy, an inclusive, all-ages event designed to bring together fans of anime, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, tabletop and video games, esports, cinema, and more. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, attendees can enjoy a full day of activities including tabletop games, mini-painting, Magic the Gathering, crafting, and a variety of scheduled highlights such as video free play, a writer's workshop with Quinne, a video tournament, a mini-figure painting contest, and the ever-popular cosplay contest. Fresh baked goods by Sandemonium will be available throughout the day, adding to the festive atmosphere. Founded in 2015 as a library event connected to the Teen Summer Reading Program, Sandemonium has since grown into Sandpoint's premier celebration of nerd culture, offering a welcoming space for newcomers and seasoned fans alike. This year's convention is co-sponsored by Sandemonium, Keokee, Sandpoint Gaming, LLC, and the Library, and more information can be found at 7Bcon.com.

Oktoberfest at the GranaryOktoberfest at the Granary
The 3rd Annual Sandpoint Oktoberfest returns to the Granary Arts District, 513 Oak St., on Saturday, October 11, from noon to 6:00 in the evening, offering a full day of celebration for the whole community. Attendees can enjoy live music, traditional Bavarian eats, and a variety of local brews while taking part in games and a best-dressed contest. Families will find plenty of fun as well, with face painting and children's activities led by the YMCA providing entertainment for younger guests. Guests are encouraged to dress in lederhosen or a dirndl, bring their own stein, and join in raising a glass to the community, making this a lively and festive event for all ages. 22 POAC Performing Art Series: Missoula Childrens Theater. The Missoula Children's Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland, an original adaptation based on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
