Bonner County FairBonner County Fair
Enjoy this old-fashioned country event at the Bonner County Fairgrounds running Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Saturday, Aug. 17. The Fair opens at 10:00 a.m. and runs until 8:00 p.m. each day. Enjoy these events where you must buy a ticket separate from your fair admission: Xtreme Bronc Riding & Bull Poker on Aug. 14 starting at 7:00 p.m.; Octane Addictions on Aug. 15 starting at 7:00 p.m.; Summer Nights Concert with Shane Profitt on Aug. 16 starting at 7:30 p.m.; and the Sandpoint Smash Demolition Derby on Aug. 17 starting at 6:30 p.m. Get your add-on tickets here.  And of course there will be all the regular fair stuff still going on. Movies on the MountainMovies on the Mountain
This is a free outdoor event that is taking place every Friday night in August. Join up on the lawn outside of the Crow's Bench on Schweitzer each Friday at twilight (around 8-8:45 p.m.) for movies, laughter, and fun. This week's movie hint: These aren't the droids you're looking for, but this is the movie you're looking for! Movie is rated PG and will run 2h 01m on Friday, August 16. This is a free event and does not require advance sign-up. Fresh popcorn will be available for $1 per bag. There will be some other snacks and drinks available for cash purchase, but you are welcome to bring any snacks and non-alcoholic drinks that you may want. Any alcohol consumed at Schweitzer must be purchased from a Schweitzer outlet. There will be some seating available, but it is recommended that you bring your own lawn chairs and blankets, and that you dress warmly because it's a lot cooler on the mountain. Wings Over Sandpoint Fly-InWings Over Sandpoint Fly-in
Regional pilots fly into Sandpoint Airport on Saturday, Aug. 17 to provide a display of aircraft ranging from general aviation to antique and experimental craft. The day kicks off with a big country breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; breakfast tickets are $8 kids, and $12 for adults and the funds will benefit the Sandpoint EAA Chapter 1441 for North Idaho youth aviation scholarships. Aircraft display also starts at 8:00 a.m., is free, and runs until about 1:30 p.m. Come down and enjoy a breakfast of blueberry pancakes, eggs and veggies, has browns, sausage, and beverages and view an assortment of airplanes and autos.  IdahoAviation.com.

Sandemonium-LiteNatural Connections: Sandemonium (Lite)
Make sure you don't miss out on the fun from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for Idaho's only convention for all things nerdy. It's going to be taking over the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St., again for an epic day filled with all of Sandpoint's favorite convention events such as a cosplay contest, tabletop gaming, esports, and virtual reality. You'll be given the opportunity to participate in workshops, gaming, meet-ups, and more. All ages are welcome to attend. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17. Join the Sandemonium Discord to meet with local nerds and get the latest updates on Sandemonium.

Here's what's happening in August!

15 West Coast Swing Lessons. All levels of dancers are welcome at this class. This is the place to go to get some individual attention with your dancing. No partner necessary. Recommended for ages 8+. $5-10 suggested donation at The Yellow Room, 102 Euclid Ave. (second floor) from 4:15-5:30 p.m.

15 Sip and Shop for the Friends of the Panida Theater. The historic Panida theater is a center for culture, music, cinema, and art - and a cornerstone of the Sandpoint community. Bring a friend and enjoy a glass of wine, pizza, and a pleasant evening in support of the Panida. FOTP will provide additional information about our local theater. A percentage of proceeds from 4-8 p.m. will be donated to FOTP. Held at Pend d'Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St.

15 Octane Addictions. Come watch the best dirt bike athletes in an adrenaline packed show at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. 15 Amphilochios: Saint of Patmos & Sacred Alaska. This is two films in one evening at the Panida brought to you by the Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Church and is a free showing. Both are documentary films. Amphilochios: Saint of Patmos is a film that explores the life and spiritual legacy of a beloved twentieth-century saint from the Greek island of Patmos. Sacred Alaska is an award-winning documentary that offers an intimate look into Native Alaskan culture and spirituality. Films start at 7 p.m. at the Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave.

16 Bonner County Museum Historic Walking Tours. The City of Sandpoint's Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Division, in collaboration with the Bonner County History Museum invites you to enjoy a historic walking tour that will cover the general history of Sandpoint and Bonner County. It will feature all the stories you'll want to tell your friends and families. Tours are scheduled every Friday running from June through August of 2024. 1 Artists' Studio Tour. An annual self-guided driving tour of working studios through North Idaho. Visit the working studios of painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, potters, glass artists and more. Set your own schedule and enjoy the scenery as you explore the works of familiar favorites and new artists. The tour is completely free of charge. 1 Wild Game Tracking, Trailing, and Scent Class. Wild animals are wily and well-equipped to elude humans in the woods at all times. Ask any hunter and they will tell you that the ability to track, trail and understand scent can make or break a hunt. The class is participatory in nature, and it is intended for students age 16 and older who possess some basic hunting knowledge and skills. Get more information, or register here. 1: 9th Annual Walk for Hope. In-person AND Virtual options are available this year. Participants may choose to walk together starting at 5 p.m. at Dog Beach OR choose their own path day-of.  This is a walk across the long bridge to promote suicide awareness, hope and healing for our community.  Registration forms are available at Scotchmans Coffee, Sandpoint Furniture, Carpet One and Selkirk Glass & Cabinets as well as online at walkforhopesandpoint.org.  All registered participants will receive a shirt.  Free hamburgers and hot dogs are provided after the event to encourage community connections.

1-2 Fall Fest. Enjoy four days of beer tasting and fun at Schweitzer. Schweitzer.com. Bring your blankets as there will be live music all weekend. The beer tent will be on the tennis courts near the bottom of the Great Escape Quad so you'll never be too far from the beer. The party continues Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

3 Ballroom Lessons. This is a drop-in class that accepts all levels of dancers. Currently it is mostly beginners. This is a donation based class and it's held at the Sandpoint Senior Center, 820 Main St. from 5:15-6:15 p.m.

5 West Coast Swing Lessons. All levels of dancers are welcome at this class. This is the place to go to get some individual attention with your dancing. No partner necessary. Recommended for ages 8+. $5-10 suggested donation at The Yellow Room, 102 Euclid Ave. (second floor) from 4:15-5:30 p.m.

6: $5 Movie: Jurassic Park. Come see the original classic at the Panida, 300 N. First Ave. starting at 7 p.m. and for only $5. An industrialist invites some experts to visit his theme park of cloned dinosaurs. After a power failure, the creatures run loose, putting everyone's lives, including his grandchildren's, in danger. Starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Get tickets here.

6 Kaniksu Fireside Dance. Come join on a dirt dance floor at the base of the sled hill, next to the forest every first and third Friday through the summer. Lessons are followed by open dancing. There is parking in the field before the red barn. 7-9 p.m. at 11735 W. Pine St.

8 Sandpoint Swing Dance. This is an all things swing event. There will be a lesson from 6-7 in East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy, Hustle, Shag, or Balboa. Open dancing will follow from 7-9 p.m. Come help build a dance community. Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave. $8 at the door.

9-14 WaCanId Ride. Annual Rotarian supported bicycle tour takes cyclists on paved roads encircling the Selkirk Mountains of Washington, Canada and Idaho - hence the name WaCanId. The six-day event covers 370 miles/595 kilometers and showcases the International Selkirk Loop's spectacular scenery. WaCanId.org.

14 Ponderay Neighbor Day. Enjoy a family-friendly community carnival - Ponderay Neighbor Day - that is fun for all ages, held at Harbison Field (behind the Hoot Owl restaurant) in Ponderay. 14 Find Your Strength 5k & 1k. Join for the annual Find Your Strength Family Fun Run. The Bonner General Health Foundation is hosting a community 5k/1k beginning and ending at the City Beach. 14 Let's Vike it Viking Faire. This event is free to all ages, and it's the first of it's kind in Newport. What could be more fun then spending a day learning about the Viking Age in a family friendly atmosphere? 14 Spacepoint Fall Equinox Event. Join Matt Dethlefson of Stoke Space for a Northwest success story. Stoke Space is one the world's first commercial rocket companies actively developing one of the first fully re-usable rockets. After Matt's presentation guests will enjoy Food, Drinks and of course the AREA 7B Observatory will be open once again for Fall Night Sky star gazing. Don't miss the annual Sci-Fi costume contest, and raffle. As always, students have a chance to qualify for Kennedy or US Rocket Center Scholarships. Get your tickets here. 14 Brittany Jean in Concert. Bonners Ferry's Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., welcomes Brittany Jean to the stage for their season opener. Show starts at 7 p.m. $5 cover change (Kids 12 and under are free). Enjoy some Americana music with Brittany Jean in concert.

14 The Dead Don't Hurt. As a fundraising benefit for both the Panida Theater and KRFY community Radio, movie star Viggo Mortensen is coming to the Panida to show his newest film. One he produced, and starred in. The Dead Don't Hurt. Released on May 31st, 2024 this western drama follows Vivienne Le Coudy when the man she loves, Holger Olsen, goes off to fight in the Civil War, she must fend for herself in a place controlled by a corrupt mayor and his unscrupulous business partner. When Olsen returns from the war, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the person each has become. There will be a live Q&A with Mortensen after the movie. 20 Talk Like a Pirate Day. You are encouraged to dress up and join in on a showing of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (PG-13) followed by a costume contest and a jig at the Historic Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St. in Bonners Ferry at 7 p.m.

20-22 September Showcase Arabian Value and All Breed Open Horse Show. Join the first Arabian breed show to be held in Sandpoint. Three days of Arabian breed and All-Breeds horse show classes. Both Western and English, Ranch classes, trail riding, Arabian Costume, etc. Special Saturday evening performance showcasing versitality of Arabian and Half-Arabian Horses. Come meet the horses up close and personal and bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Bonner County Food Bank. Event will be held at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. He started his path at age 10 with classical guitar schooling, but his journey led to groundbreaking creations like the triple neck guitar and collaborations with renowned bands.
