Here's what's happening in April
4 Friends of the Library Book Sale. The Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St., hosts this monthly event on the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby. Support your library, and your book reading habit.

5 Registration Deadline: Beginning Acrylic Portrait Painting with Bill Mather. This introductory portrait painting class guides students through the fundamentals of painting realistic human portraits. Classes will be held April 11, 18, 25, and May 2 from 3-6 p.m. $144. It's a relaxed evening of car talk, familiar faces, and good company, where the conversations last longer than the agenda. Look forward to this the first Tuesday of every month (March-Nov).
7 Blacksmithed Utensil Rack. Come forge a beautiful and functional piece of kitchen hardware that will delight you and everyone that enters your home. 8 America 250 Celebration: Revolutionary Spuds. Join at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St. from 1-2:30 p.m. to see the Revolutionary Spuds. Created by Treasurer Julie Ellsworth, and based off the Idaho Potato Commission's mascot, these spuds have personalities based off historical figures. The collection includes 8 distinct characters, such as Alexander Hamiltater, and Spudjamon Franklin.

11 How to Grow an Abundant Food Garden. Join from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St. in the Community Rooms. This class is for the new or experienced gardener. Join for 3 minute workshops taught by local experts. Free.
11 KFS: Birch Bark Containers. Join at Kaniksu Land Trust, 1215 Michigan St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. where Shaun Deller will lead you to create your own elegant container for tea, coffee, spices, or other goods. 18 Free Shred Day & Food Drive. Come on down to Columbia Bank, 414 Church St. where you can bring up to 3 bags/small boxes of clean shred items to be disposed of. They will also be accepting donations for our local food bank during this time. Shred day will run until 1 p.m. or until the truck is full.

20-24 Sandpoint Citywide Branch Pickup. All residents must have branches ready by 7 a.m. on April 20 as crews will only pass through each block once. Branches must be stacked parallel to the curb on the edge of the street. Branches can be no longer that 6 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. If other debris is mixed into the stacks, they may not be picked up.

23 Fertilizing Your Garden Organically. Fertile soil is the first step in increasing yields. Cultural practices such as cover cropping, and composting will ensure balanced nutrition of your soil in the long run, and organic amendments will help your garden thrive.
