Here's what's happening in June

**The Summer Nutrition Program for Kids offers free meals for children ages 1-18 Monday through Friday at several Sandpoint locations. At Farmin Elementary, the program runs June 15-August 28 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with Grab & Go meals that include lunch and breakfast for the next day, plus a weekend food bag provided on Fridays; meals can be picked up at the cafeteria entrance. At Sandpoint City Beach, Grab & Go lunches are available in the grassy area by the playground from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 29-August 28. At Sandpoint High School, lunch-only meals that must be eaten on site are served at the front left entrance from noon to 12:30 p.m. June 15-July 17. All sites will be closed July 3.

*Idaho Trails Association Volunteer Trail Projects. Looking for a way to give back to Idaho's great outdoors this summer? The Idaho Trails Association is seeking volunteers of all skill levels to help maintain and restore hiking trails across north Idaho. No experience is necessary, and all tools, training, and support are provided. Upcoming projects include work on Timber Mountain Trail near Bonners Ferry on July 1, the Jackson Creek Trail in the Salmo-Priest Wilderness July 10-12, Cataract Creek in the Coeur d’Alene Ranger District Aug. 15-16, a free youth trail project for ages 14-18 at Halsey Creek Aug. 19-23, and the Trestle Ridge Trail near Clark Fork Aug. 22-23. Volunteers will have the opportunity to improve Idaho's trail system, enjoy time outdoors, and help preserve public lands for future generations. 26 Basic Whisk Broom & Pot Scrubber with Brad Huhta. Join at The Sled Barn, 11735 W. Pine St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. where you can make a useful and beautiful hand broom that's great for a gift! Using hand and foot tools, you will tightly wrap the broom handle, then sew the bristles into a flat shape. The extra length of the broom corn can be made into a pot scrubber. 26 Spanish Language Social Gathering. Join from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at MickDuff's Brewing Co. for this Spanish language social gathering with complementary lite fare provided, but drinks not included. Hosted by the Sandpoint Library.

27 Sandpoint French Social Meetup. Join at 9:30 a.m. at Paneah's Bistro, 334 N. First Ave. #200 to practice your French language or learn some French. This is a social meetup held twice a month. Once in the morning, and once in the evening. See more on the Facebook page here.

27 Natural Pest Management for the Organic Garden. Natural Pest Management: Join to find out what's "bugging" your garden and what you can do about pests using informed decisions and sustainable approaches for pest control. It is based on the book "An Open-Hearted Life: Transformative Methods for Compassionate Living from a Clinical Psychologist and a Buddhist Nun," co-written by Buddhist teacher and author, Thubten Chodron, and Eastern Washington University professor and clinical psychologist, Russell Kolts. No registration required. Drop-ins are welcomed.

2 Panida Community Board Meeting. Join in the Panida Little Theater, 302 N. First Ave. from 5-6 p.m.

3-9 Jowo Atisha's Lamp for the Path. Geshe Gendun Samdup, an exceptional Dharma teacher and the personal attendant to Serkong Rinpoche, will visit Sravasti Abbey to continue teaching Jowo Atisha’s "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment", a short and treasured text by the great Indian Master Jowo Atisha, who revived Buddhism in Tibet in the 11th century. In 68 pithy verses, it outlines the practices that culminate in full awakening and is the basis for the entire genre of lamrim (stages of the path) teachings. Je Tsongkhapa praises this text and its author as the source of his "Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path" (Lamrim Chenmo), which is practiced in the lineage of the Dalai Lama and at Sravasti Abbey. 11 Nature Journaling with Watercolors with Amy Stephensen. Join at the Sled Barn, 11735 W. Pine St. and connect more deeply with the living world with nature journaling. 11 Harvesting The Bounty. After putting a lot of time and effort into successfully growing your crops, you want to make sure you are harvesting at the correct time for peak flavor and good storage. We will cover how to harvest all of the veggies in your garden and techniques for getting optimal yields for vegetables, herbs, cut flowers along with best practices for post-harvest handling to assure food safety guidelines are met. 12 Turkey Wing Broom with Brad Huhta. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sled Barn, 11735 W. Pine St. you will learn to create a type of broom that involves a bit more work than the basic whisk broom. 16 Protecting North Idaho's Wildlands: An Introduction to the Idaho Panhandle Public Lands Initiative (IPPLI). Learn about the future of North Idaho's public lands at a community discussion hosted by the Idaho Conservation League at Evans Brothers Cafe, 524 Church St. from 6-7:30 p.m. Attendees will hear updates on the Idaho Panhandle Public Lands Initiative and proposed plans for the Selkirk Mountains and surrounding landscapes, with a focus on balancing conservation, recreation, restoration, and working forest values. The event offers an opportunity to connect with ICL staff, learn more about efforts to protect the region’s iconic public lands, and join the conversation about keeping them healthy, wild, and accessible for future generations.

19 Sharing the Dharma Day. Join the Buddhist nuns and monks at Sravasti Abbey Buddhist monastery, 692 Country Lane in Newport, for Sharing the Dharma Day from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a day-long event for newcomers and old friends to explore Buddha's teachings to develop peaceful hearts and minds. The day includes a guided meditation, a teaching on the topic of the day, vegetarian potluck, and a facilitated discussion. 25-26 Torch Welded Art with Dave Gonzo. Join metal artist Dave Gonzo of Infinity Artistic Ironworks at 1019 Baldy Mountain Rd., in learning to draw with fire and metal in 3-D! Each student will be creating a piece of art for their garden, home or as a special gift. In this 2 day class, they will learn about and the use of the oxyacetylene torch. Students will leave the class with not just a piece of art that you created that will last a lifetime, you’ll leave with a new sense of working with fire and metal. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. $150.
