Respondent | Responses | |
| Pollution of our lakes and rivers and over priced real estate
| We have too many small, flyer like almost brochures that are circulated, more advertisements than information. Some need to step away
| what it is has been like to be a teacher during the world-wide pandemic vs. what it has been like to be a student during the world-wide pandemic.
| None | |
| Breaking news is rarely covered in a timely fashion. Often a day or more late.
| I do not feel like sexual predators, the cases, trials, and whereabouts are being covered nearly enough. I personally would find great value in a paper that put the children’s safety first and reported new sexual offenders move to the area, where in Sandpoint they live and when the cases and outcomes are being heard. Is also like updates on said cases when sexual offenders renter the population.
| I don't know... just seems like the Bee is falling apart.. getting thinner.. lots of mistakes.. Reader comes out once a week... so Sandpoint Forum seems to tell us what is going on now.. I know now all the info is correct but seems like 90% is.. which is about the average for the Bee..
| Local politics | |
| I would like more stories on local people who contribute directly to our community. That’s why I read the reader and Sandpoint magazine but lately it’s all ads and I’d like to see more faces that I might recognize and see what awesome stuff their up to.
| Considered dropping the Daily Bee subscription. Biased to the left. Don’t read the Reader for the same reason. It would be so refreshing to just see facts and not the adjectives used to influence perspective, or the sensationalism in article headlines.
| Crime and results. Used to have a court report in Bee of convictions, marriage/divorce, etc. Also getting to expensive to publish obits in local paper. Record shows arrests but never any followup |
|
| I feel that local media is extremely biased to the left, and other views are rarely offered or "allowed"
| Public opinion on issues.
| I think our print media is spread out too much we have too many local magazines.
| I’m skeptical about deaths recorded as COVID. I’d like to know more about the victims but appreciate confidentiality.
| Local business journal would be a nice addition
| Tell the TRUTH...make all media accessible to people without subscribing. I will not buy online news.
| Worried about the State Legislature and new bills they are passing to increase their power and their extreme policies.
| Coverage of local board and community meetings... I really miss the Mike Brown reports on Jon’s with city council and commissioner meetings.
| Local news is missed quite often.
| Let’s post the news. Not non biased liberal agenda media.
| Skip | |
| Make it easier to find the information, be it promoting or discounts for papers...I wish the news to cover it all, with unbiased facts and never opinions of either the writer or speakers.
| They ALL needs more Conservative input and less activism in the articles.
| A lot of our local news sources don’t seem to be unbiased. There should be fair coverage for all news. The Bee is horrible
| You have picked up more County Commission stories in the last year. Please continue. I appreciate your reach out to Dan Macdonald w, who has said in the past that he doesn't read the reader. He is realizing you are a significant voice in our community. I love that I can always reach out to you guys with story ideas.
| Honestly I feel Sandpoint has become a playground for the wealthy. Hard for a middle income family to make it here. What used to be a lovely simple working persons town is now too cool for its own skin
| You are all doing a great job! The Daily Bee could REALLY use some work and could take note from the other media sources in town! As a local resident, I feel very connected to information that is pertinent to my community.
| I think the local news is adequately the covering important topics that affect us.
| Heather Scott is a looney. Please try not to publish her dangerous, destructive nonsense. |
|
| would appreciate more research based news with links to various sources, data ..time to grab hold of facts w/o bias
| what really goes on in Sandpoint I find more out on facebook than I do in the paper most of the time
| I have been here 35+ years and when there is a power outage I have NEVER once heard anything useful on local radio, SHAME!
| Environmental | |
| State government that is in depth and not just a synopsis of what they did during the week. We just seem to be out of touch with the rest of the state.
| The Daily bee is horrible. It spread rumors and un true facts for a good story.
| Any news that is negative to the area is inadvertently covered.
| Local business | |
| Continue highlighting social issues.
| racial justice, the state of education, cannabis law reform
| The Reader is way too biased towards the left. I want fairness, not just the left opinions
| Yes there is....responding to editorials and never see the other side of most of the comments
| The local housing crisis and what is being done to alleviate it is under reported. How is the city planning to accommodate all the new residents and achieve a sustainable, equitable, level of growth in coming years.
| Would be great if we had a better daily newspaper, but Sandpoint Reader fills in pretty well
| I like the text messages I receive about weather warnings and accidents, as well as other warnings. It is very helpful
| I'd like to hear more about issues our city councils and county commissioners are discussing or planning.
| Our local sheriff needs to inform us better on his outlook on politics/problems
| More detailed calendar of events. Downtown activities including music is nice. More community wide calendar. Science fairs, ultimate Frisbee matches, Frisbee golf, bowling league sign-up, etc. Doesn't have to be in print, but maybe highlight in print and online go to calendar.
| Lack of information on the overall state of our forests, watersheds, and logging policies of Idaho Department of Lands in Bonner County
| Reader is best but I wish they were available at more locations
| Maybe more details on local Covid cases and current regulations.
| I would love to see more frequently updated events calendar. City halleetings with city planning etc.
| More vetted National news to counteract false social media claims, please
| Crime |
|
| Local media needs to be unbiased.
| Question #11 should have a nonbinary option.
| I really appreciate the difficult issues that the Reader has taken on. I would like to see more environment, housing shortage, poverty, income disparity, and youth issues (besides sports)
| Provide facts and let people use their minds to decide their interpretation.
| More articles/stories about businesses, events and people in areas/cities outside of Sandpoint. More straight-forward reporting and less politicizing in certain news outlets. Op/eds should be more balanced with pros and cons.
| Legislation happening down in Boise could use more coverage since it still effects North Idaho.
| I've lived here 40+ years and see a lot of bias in HOW stories are covered. People who are "liked" are treated with kid gloves, others are raked over the coals. Lots of news is dropped after a brief notice one day with no follow-up (The fire at Talache Beach last summer is one example). Stories are cut off with no ending. Lots of typos! Sensationalism seems to be still thought of as a reader draw.
| Pend Oreille Lake conditions, temp, elevation, etc Shopping sales |
|
| Where is there any local journalism??? You hardly even cover city council meetings.
| Covid-19 reporting has exposed a total lack of journalism, no questioning of "facts", local media (all forms) appear to just publish press releases and fear monger. Whatever happened to hard questions, searching for truth, presenting both sides of argument? Media has been exposed as biased and unreliable.
| There are tons of events that happen in this area that aren’t covered before hand. If you don’t “know” you don’t know
| I am very satisfied with local media.
| I'd like to see more climate/environmental local news
| more funny stuff | |
| I would like to seen more dual point/ counter-point factual accounts of two opposing views of an issue
| I am sure there is more happening in Bonner Co. than what the Bee gives us. They use AP junk to fill pages that could give more truly local (not CDA) information.
| Truth | |
| Reader does a good job. Daily Bee has had so many mistakes I rarely read it. Read Spokesman instead, though they don't cover Sandpoint any more.
| find most media to be one sided
| The population influx to our area. Housing issues. Culture shift to older people and away from young people and schools.
| Train noise (HORNS) is an under-appreciated and overlooked issue in Sandpoint. Why do we put up with it? Obviously the trains are necessary and will be with us but the ear-splitting horns at all hours of the night is an absolute nightmare for many people. And it's totally fixable. Silent crossings and over/under passes would do wonders for the quality of life on the north side of town. The second bridge WILL bring more trains and the unnecessary problem will get worse. We need this to be addressed more so than many of the projects the city is fixated on for the benefit of tourists and visitors more so than the residents of Sandpoint. It's FIXABLE, Let's get to work!!!!
| Local news for here in Bonner County. Activities, sports, events going to happen. Newspaper is what I read - I'm OLD SCHOOL!! Internet use sometimes but paper my choice. |
|
| Cult of Trumpism. Disbelief in science, magical thinking |
|
| The Reader quit delivering to Laughing Dog.?? Too much leftist bias. |
|
| There is not information on local happenings and growth. Paper does not follow who, what , where, and why on so many ads.
| Local weather and road conditions Community volunteer opportunities National news recap |
|
| i get national and international news from the internet.
| The ecology of our area, what impact we are having on it and what we can about it. Animal rights (Like the geese issue) The housing issue and how the influx of the wealthy are pushing locals out. Articles on how to choose media that gives factual information. How to heal the division in this community. Lastly, the total lack of caution and etiquette shown by the drivers in this town. (People blow thru stop signs regularly, drive aggressively, and go way too fast.)
| Environmental issues
| I would wish the Bee had less school sports items and more political coverage locally and in Boise.
| Just wanted to say I think The Sandpoint Reader does an excellent job on all the news it covers - The Daily Bee covers a broader range of topics - between the two, we feel well informed on local topics.
| Environmental news. Concerns over our shrinking wetlands due to housing developments |
|
| When I need honest unbiased news, I trust Sandpoint Reader. I accept the Daily Bee for what it is, a local paper that yields to pressure from the predominantly conservative local government.
| I really enjoy The Reader and think they keep me well informed of local, national, and statewide issues. I think they are very detailed. I also love reading the editorials.
| I have been here 14 years and the Daily Bee Has come long way Reader is very current every week |
|
| Still need to learn local media outlets. The radio and talk shows would interest me ...although I look forward to The Reader and read it regularly
| It would be nice if the Daily Bee could watch their spelling and grammar a bit better.
| Considered dropping the Daily Bee subscription. Biased to the left. Don’t read the Reader for the same reason. It would be so refreshing to just see facts and not the adjectives used to influence perspective, or the sensationalism in article headlines. |
