Another Fine Festival
This year audiences will be able to experience the vision of maestro
Gunther Schuller in two performances with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra
during The Festival at Sandpoint.
Schuller's students from the Schweitzer Institute of Music will combine
their talents in the Young Conductor's concert on August 12. Five students
comprising the finest up-and-coming conductors in the world
will share the stage for a night that will include Beethoven's Symphony
No. 7 and Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G Minor.
Schuller himself will take up the baton on Aug. 15 with a concert featuring
Chausson's Poeme, Mahler's Adagietto from Symphony No. 5, and Schubert's
"Great" C Major Symphony. This concert, which is the grand finale
for the Festival, will feature Sandpoint's own young and talented violinist,
Jason Moody, as a special guest soloist.
The entire Festival at Sandpoint season runs Aug. 5-15, with a pre-season
concert at Schweitzer Mountain Resort on Aug. 1.
Although the lineup of acts this year was not available at press time,
the two-week music series will feature an eclectic lineup of blues, country,
pop, folk, rock, classical and light jazz concerts.
